I have a Mira power shower fitted for a hot supply via an essex flange on hot tank. After a couple of showers it can often seem to run out of hot water, despitye the bathroom basin still having plenty of hot water. what's wrong? why is this happening? a second unit in a guest ensuite has the same issue so it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with the one unit.

That's why the basin has still got plenty of water. You've got something like 14 litres of water at the top of the tank that the shower cant access. Blank off the essex flange and fit a surrey or warix flange.

Your tank is too small , power showers rattle through the stored hot water in no time if turned on full power.
2 decent showers is probably about right from a standard sized tank/cylinder
