I've removed my old extractor fan and fitted an in-line one instead. I'm now left with a large hole which I've covered with some MDF to keep the spiders out. Before my plasterer comes I was wondering if I could just cut out some plasterboard to fit the hole and then he can skim over this.

Does this sound acceptable or is it better to screw some timber between the joists and fix the plasterboard cutout to this?

sounds like a plan.
gripfill that spider blocker where it is now then tomorrow gripfill a plasterboard square to it to fill the hole in.
