Prescribed zones question.

Hi, I've got a mezzanine level in my bedroom and from bottom to top the ceiling is sloped with wooden beams coming out every few meters.

I am putting wall lights up, but the cable can only be run diagonally due to the shape and obstacles. Under 7.3.2 of the on-site guide it states nothing towards it. Now can i stray from this? The circuit is RCD protected.

This is what your allowed to do;

If the cable runs diagonally, it should be mechanically protected.

No RCDs don't count, as it will not prevent mechanical damage, it will help prevent the likehood of a fatal electrical shock, but will not protect the cable.
