Hi Guys,

I have a Smart AVC cylinder and would like to a add a water softener.

From the blue poly stop cock there is a long stretch of 22mm copper where i would like to tap in to so I can add the softener. If i was to switch off the mains cold water and cut the pipe would I get any back flow from the cylinder or would the PRV prevent this and I should be okay to go ahead and do my connections?

Thanks!

PRV wont no, if it has a NRV fitted then you'll be ok but ideally you'll depressurise the centre cylinder/HW circuit. So it's turn off the heat source, isolate the cold feed and then open a hot tap. You will still have some water in the pipe so towels or a basin to catch it.

Though as it's an unvented hot water source then you really want a qualified engineer to do any work on it or its supply.
