I have recently bought a homlite hpw2210 and have been having problems getting it started. I had narrowed it down to the spark plug as it wasnt sparking and have bought a new one but thats not sparking either. does anyone have any ideas how to fix?

Two things to check....
Bypass (disconnect) the engine stop switch
Do the same with the oil level alert switch (if fitted)
If that doesn't help, look for a spark when the engine is in the dark - make sure the plug body touches the engine metal.
After that, its the recoil cover off for a new igniter, if you can get one - but look for trapped or chafed wires at the same time.

Thanks for your reply. the spark plug is now working however i still cant get the pressure washer to start. when i take the silver cover off the front one of the valves seems to be sitting loose. Is this anything that could cause it not to start? thanks

A picture would be great here, but if I am visualising correctly, you have taken the rocker cover off, to reveal the two valves, rockers and springs, and one of them has lost a steel shim so the valve isn't opening......actually this isn't uncommon and its caused by vibration loosening the adjustment screws, allowing the shim to come out of position. The shim is usually captive in the rocker chamber when this happens.
I assume this is an OHV engine, and not an OHC type.
If all is well, turning the engine over slowly will operate one valve at a time, and when that valve is completely shut, there should be a tiny clearance between the rocker arm and valve stem.
John :)
