Our village hall and the two attached residential cottages are supplied by a single water main through a Utility Company meter which splits after the meter to serve the three buildings. The building is over two hundred years old and short of digging up all the forecourt and front gardens we have no idea where the main splits.
Our current water bill is over £1200 per year and we belive most of the water is used by the two residents either side but without separate meters we cannot prove that. A compromise option therefore is to fit a private meter on the rising main in the village hall to meter the hall usage, which means the remainder must be used by the two residents.
My question is what type of meter to have fitted and what size. The water main is only 1/2" (screwed barrel) which serves the cold tap in the kitchen and the storage tank in the roof. Water to the toilets and hand basins is gravity fed from the tank. On several websites they talk about single jet or multijet meters and the Wiki talks about PD meters.
I doubt the hall uses any more water than a large domestic house, probably less, so would a 1/2" Single jet meter of 1.5 m3/hr such as this be suitable http://www.pipestock.com/water-meters/single-jet-cold-water/ or should we fit a 3/4" at 2.5m3/hr?
Also these meters appear to be designed for external/burial usage. Are there private meters available for domestic/wall mounting use
many thanks
