Hello,
I have a MAIN Combi 24 HE, I had it installed approximately 3 years ago, about a month ago it was showing the "Flame failure" LED, I read the book stated an internal error or a blocked flue on the trouble shooting guide that came with the boiler. I did not understand what it meant, so i reset the system, and this worked. About 3 weeks ago one of the pipe underneath was leaking not a lot but the occassional droplet. I have been resetting the system now and again for about 4 weeks now. About 2 weeks ago i called a plumber told him about the requirement to reset the boiler and he stated like a car if it works periodically it is very hard to diagnose the problem unless you remove and check all parts which he stated would be expensive due to labour costs, and recommended leaving it until it stops working completely. I think that time is soon.
Today I tried putting on the heating, didn't work, reset and it did but only for a while, it then starting vibrating and hissing like a pressure cooker, it shut itself down. I took off the main cover to reveal the pilot lights. I turned the CH on again, also run the hot water, didn't work, so again reset, it lit and the flames were burning, the flames then burnt quite violently along with the pressure cooker sounds, and shut itself off.
My questions are:
1. Any idea what this could be, I have looked at the manual fault finding and from what i gather (i stress i know nothing about boilers) replace PCb after checking ignition electrode and leads, or replace gas valve electrical plug/igniter assy. Hoping you may have a better idea.
2. On the assumption you know what the problem could be, do you know approx costs, and if so in your opinion would be cost affective to take advantage of the british gas fixed price.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
