Problem with heating

one about 100mm from the base of cylinder and flow is about 300mm above that.

it was turned all the way it could go anti-clockwise, I assume this is open.
 
yep it was completly closed, I have tried closing it half way and the rad doesn't heat up... :(
 
it can't of been closed as the hot water cylinder would never of heated.

have you a pic of this valve ?

sounds more like a bypass valve.
 
my mistake I meant to say it was fully open, I followed your suggestion and made it half open and the radiator didn't heat up.

I've attached a couple of pictures and highllighted the handle im talking about.




 
No that is the cold feed to the cylinder (hot water stop cock)

the cylinder return is the one coming out the cylinder on the bottom left hand side
doesnt look like its got a balancing valve on it from here though

A photo of the pipework out of shot behind the door frame might be useful

the pipe on the left hand side coming from the bottom of the cylinder doesn't have a handle on it.

I've attached a few more photos if you have any other ideas...



 
well i really appreciate your efforts, I know it's pretty difficult trying to diagnoise these things over the net.
