I have light up level and down level and three switches, one is single gang and to way , second is 2 gang but 1 gang is 2 way and 1 common and second gang is 2 way and 2 common (problem buy new switch!!!!!!!) up level is switch with 2 gang and on the back there is grid with 3 way and 3 common ( i can not buy switch ass well ) and they are connected together, it is any way than some one can help me, maybe some diagram to change all this two switches for normal 2 gang 2 way switch or it is impossible???? pls can you answer ASAP or where can I buy like that modern switch brass for example????

If you have two lights operated together by three different switches, two of them will be 2-way switches. the third will be what's called an intermediate switch. The intermediate can't be changed for a 1-way or 2-way switch. Look on the diagrams section for how they should be wired up.

problem is that I am not a electrician, every thing is for me dark, I was watched diagrams ok I can try something but the problem is that you sad to me that I have 2 two way switches and 1 intermediate , ok but downstairs I have 1 switch 2 way than 1 intermediate than upstairs there is 3 way I think, I am not sure there is l1,l2,l3 and three common with 2 gang, that confuse me so much, maybe I will add some pictures there will be easier or it clear what I am talking about here or you can tell me which diagrams is to my wiring, thank you

I made mistake, upstairs is l1,l2,com twice , but it is different than normal, I was trying connect 2 way normal switch so still is not working, how should work, one of the switch gang is incorrect, the best I will upload a pictures pls if someone know help me connect this or tell me that is impossible so than I can look for new switches or I will leave old one, my answer is it is possible swap downstairs switch for 2 way normal, on the pic is white old and gold new switch, and upstairs ass well white is old and gold is new, if this is impossible what shell I do, and there is still 3rd one but it is fine,

That shows that one side of the old switch is an intermediate. If it was one of three places where you could switch the same light on and off then you cannot replace it with the new switch you show. If you can get a 2-gang intermediate you can use one side just as a 2-way.

That one you can swap OK, but pay close attention to the diagonal line on the old switch as that shows you which terminals belong to which side - they are laid out differently to your new switch.

I so hope you made a very careful note of which wire went where, but I cannot see anything on any of the conductors to identify them.

If you did not then given
problem is that I am not a electrician, every thing is for me dark
I fear you are probably doomed, and you'll save yourself a lot of aggravation if you call an electrician in now, rather than in a few days time.

thank you very much for your help!!!!that help me so much , I know I can do worst but I want to do this on myself , I was watching wire so many times, I hope careful enough , but if you have any idea, everything welcome, I will add two more pic maybe they will help to you to help me, maybe you will see the wire, thank you

You need to copy the wiring as it is in your photographs. each of your switches has 3/4 terminals, it is important that what ever wire was in the terminal marked C / COM / COMMON is kept in that terminal, the rest should follow from there.

The replacment brass switch you have there will NOT work with how your switching is wired as bas said. you have an 'intermediate' switch as there are more than two switching positions for the lights. This is one example picked at randow from a google search http://gil-lec.co.uk/products/Switc...ed+Brass+Switch+Intermediate+2+Gang/312839014

I done this I was coping all of them , but when I finished does not work like before, one of the light I could not switch, I was coping from old to new like the pic,s showing, what was wrong???how to display the wire???

My question is can I swap this for that brass one or no???

Those switches match. You MUST connect earth to the earth terminal.

You need a grid system switch for the other one. You need an intermediate (4 terminals) module
and
a 2 way (3 terminals) module.

We need to know what colour is used for the 'common'.

Your photo suggests red, as it looks like you have two reds in a connector where the intermediate switch is. CONFIRM the colour.

Now look in the other switch that you haven't removed. Look at the wire in the 'common' or C terminal. CONFIRM the colour.

Some of your pictures suggest red has been used as common, some suggest red. I suppose both could have been used.

both common yellow wires are connected,

l1is black and blue
l2 is 2 reds
l1 is red
l2 is blue
how shell I swap???to another?

intermediate
common is blue and yellow
l1 two reds
l2 black and blue
2 way(terminals)
l1 blue
l2 red
common is yellow

intermediate
common is blue and yellow
l1 two reds
l2 black and blue
2 way(terminals)
l1 blue
l2 red
common is yellow

So at this switch you must have a separate connector block with one red and one yellow. YES OR NO?

Have you altered this connector block in any way? YES OR NO?

If the answers are 1, Yes
2, No
I suggest the following;

Lets call
the cable with RED and BLACK cable A
the cable with RED, YELLOW and BLUE cable B
the cable with RED in connector block cable C
the cable with YELLOW in connector block cable D

The 4 terminal intermediate switch may or may not have markings on it.
Lets call the terminals
TOP 1
TOP 2
BOTTOM 1
BOTTOM 2

2 way switch
COM = yellow from cable B
L1 = red from cable A
red from cable B
L2 = black from cable A
blue from cable B

Intermediate
TOP 1 = yellow from cable C
TOP 2 = blue from cable C
BOTTOM 1 = red from cable D
BOTTOM 2 = blue from cable D

Remember to isolate all lighting circuits before starting to work.
Remember to earth all metalwork at the switches.
