PROBLEM WITH THERMOSTAT ON WALL MOUNTED SHOWER

My partner and I have just moved into a new house and have discoverd that the shower thermostat is not working properly. The water is coming out too hot and no matter which way you turn the thermostat is does not make any difference. My other half has tried to take the unit apart but he doesn't have the right knowledge or tools to solve the problem.

The shower is a Artisan Surface Mounted Thermostatic Shower by Bristan..

Anyone help before we spend out on a plumber!
