Hi all, I just bought a replacement shower for my old Triton. The water inlet is a swivel-type and lines up with the supply ok, but when I tighten up the compression elbow I am using between them and open the shutoff valve, water gushes from the connection to the shower, even though the olive and nut go on ok and seem to tighten nicely over the ptfe tape I'm using.
I've tried moving the olive position, tightening a bit more than I would normally do, using more or less tape... but nothing seems to make any difference.
I've done a few electric shower replacements over the years but not recently.
I must be missing something obvious?
Any ideas much appreciated...

I always use a copper olive on plastic fittings, you shouldn't need to tighten much to get a seal, something is amiss somewhere.

Looks like you're trying to get a conical surface on the elbow to seal to a flat surface on the plastic fitting?

There should be no need for any tape at all. If the connection is to plastic pipe, then the plastic pipe should have a metal sleeve placed inside it, to reinforce it where the olive goes, otherwise the plastic will simply crush down without sealing.

I hear you but the plastic is not being distorted at all...

It looks like the brass coloured fitting is a tap connector, which uses a fibre washer to seal, not really good practice

You cant use a bent tap connector like that straight onto a compression fitting. You need to use a normal compression fitting and the smallest length of pipe able to be able to connect the 2 elbows, will never work otherwise.

Oh and never use PTFE tape on the threads of a compression fitting, waste of tape, does nothing, the water seal is made at the olive and not the threads

Only ever use tape on an old olive if an old fitting is being re-used.

Just re-looking at the photos, is there any manoeuvre for lowing the shower to allow the elbow through the wall to turn 90 degrees and connect directly to the shower stem?
