It does depend on what you want to bond a wide and varied range products are available for different applications.
Super glue in it's original form is not seen these days as others have jumped in to the market.
A Cyanoacrylate glue would be something you would be looking for.
Loctite Superglue is cyanoacrylate but doesn't seem as strong as the superglue when it first came out in the 1970s.
Am bonding various things:
*small metal pieces that make a clamp about the size of a hazelnut on an anglepoise-type lamp. Suspect any glue will not be adequate as ratio of strength to bonding area is not in my favour
* tiny bone (possibly ivory) ornament where invisible bond is required
* small china bowl - hope to get a bit more use out of it, though once glued won't stand up to the dishwasher
cyanoacrylate was originally developed for medicine to stick skin, which it does very well. However, people overestimate it. It is not that "super" as all that (even in the 70s). It doesn't have the shear and peel advantage of some other glues depending on the materials. It is not great on plastic.
It is really useful in forensics. They can take a fingerprint off some somethign the would destroy with a brush using vapour.
it also produces cyanide if you stick in the microwave.
Agreed - chucked the bowl out, using Bostick for ornament and think I might do something creative with narrow strios of gaffer tape to mend the small metal bracket
