Hi everyone!
I am interested to find out if any other plumbers or the like have encountered any problems with PROTECT-O-LINE alkothene fittings! Over the last 18 months I have installed over 120 of these, but recently 2 have "blown" off causing considerable damage to the occupied properties!

I personally wasnt called out the emergency so not entirely sure on exact circumstances but the copper had come out of the fitting!
Both fittings were boxed in so unsure if it started off a slow leak before "blowing off"!

Both properties are on same street and I have been called out to one today that was weeping from the alkothene side, both connections were very tight and assembled correctly.

Residents have mentioned sporadic water pressures and what sounds like air coming from the taps all occurring recently! sorry if its all long winded but the excess on my liability insurance is £500 and i am terrified of any more "blowing off".

Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I have no experience of these particular fittings that I recall but here's my thoughts about it.

Assuming the fittings are suitably certified by WRAS or agrement board then I would be inclined to take the issue up with the water supplier.

Another approach is to try and sell another 120+ shock arrestors to customers in this 'problem area'

not sure how you would get on but why not contact the rep, he will obviously say there is nothing wrong with the fittings so then ask him to meet you on site to check a couple, if he confirms they are fitted properly follow up the meeting with an email to him/her and you then have confirmation that what you did and the fitting itself is ok, long shot but worth a try
