Protecting VM outdoor Cable

Bit of an odd question, but think this forum is the best one to answer it.

Have Virgin Medias broadband cable running down the front lawn, where it enters and exits the lawn they have fitted one meter of convoluted hose, but the rest, about 10 mtrs , is just the bare rubber cable and is literally a couple of inches deep.

Needing to redo the garden/ lawn, so could bury the cable a bit deeper but would like to add some protection to help prevent any future problems.

Problem is what to use ? as its not possible to disconnect the cable to feed it into some trunking and cannot get enough depth to use concrete cover slabs etc.

Well trunking general has a lid, so disconnection would not be an Issue!
I assume you mean conduit? You can purchase split flexible conduit.

Thanks, had see the flex conduit but not the split version, which seems more from trade suppliers than the diy shop.

This is the problem .... the plastic coverings will help protect from the cable rubbing on stones etc, but not a spade etc.

Can only think that once with an extra covering of round split conduit , because VMs cable is an uneven figure of 8 , then to place some solid right angled or U shaped metal channel over it, like a steel fence post ..... ?

if you are after mechanical protection against tool damage, then you will ideally need at least 2mm gauge metallic duct. You are not going be able to split that, so disconnect the cable at the external junction would be the best solution and feed through then reconnecting.
Other than that the cable will need to be buried about two foot.

Nah. But I have seen this before.

Cable going from pavement to house wall buried inches below with no protection. The builder was relaying the drive.

He pulled up the cable and it got severed.

Customer argues LR&C with Virgin but they say he has to pay to rectify the damage.

The twist in the tale?

The guy who was arguing with Virgin about who should pay to rectify the damaged was an employee of theirs......

The above are more examples of why nobody in their right minds would ever have a cable service installed if the installers would not work to the customer's standards, not their usual rubbish.

When I had VM they just tucked the cable under the turf on the front lawn. Foxes (?) pulled it up within 48 hours
