Hi All,

I have recently planted a couple of new rose climbers for my arbour. Each plant is producing stems which are growing towards the climbing frame which is ok, as I can train these. They are also growing a couple of stems which are growing away from the frame. Should I also train these towards the frame or cut them off to encourage growth of the other stems?

Cheers

Just chop them off. People make a huge fuss about exactly how a rose should be pruned, but making sure it's been planted into decent soil and keeping it watered in dry spells during the first season is much more important than exactly how it's trimmed!
