Hello everyone.
I've got a maths dilema

My present PC (3 years old) has a 300w PSU.

The PC I'm saving up for needs to have a 1000W PSU because of it's graphics cards (GEforce GTX280 in SLI).

Does that 1000w mean it will cost three times as much to run as my old PC?

Cheers
Jenna

not quite.

it may have a 1kw PSU, but that doesnt mean to say it will be using 1kw all the time.

but assuming that it does run all the time at 1kw and your old PSU ran all the time at 300w then yes it will cost more to run

If you invest in a good quality PSU then it wont cost that much more as it should be a more efficient unit. It's not often they peak beyond 80% regarded as full load so work your maths out with a 20 % decrease ;)
