Hoping you can give me some recommendations / advice ...

I have built a cupboard with double doors.

I want to make a floor level "shelf" that can be pulled out so that I can put a folding bike (weighs about 12kg) on it and then push the shelf and bike back in.

I'm thinking I could use extended drawer runners but I'm a bit confused about the different types. Do I need fully extending runners and what kind of quality should I go for?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

thanks

I think will all get confused ,so many possibilities, technical dept of Style Tec Tonbridge are great to talk to and will probably have other alternative solutiones

Thanks Harbourwoodwork - I had a look at their website and couldn't see anything appropriate but I will give them a call tomorrow.

If you don't get sorted there try Hefele but the choices there are infinate ,ask the tec heads its always a good short cut.

My experience of speccing things like this are:

Always over-engineer it slightly, but...

... beware of specialist vendors who try to sell you a branded or (worse still) customised solution.

If in doubt, look for no-nonsense, unbranded industrial-quality stuff that is often remarkable cheap. And always ask for a trade price.

Thanks for all your thoughts - style tech tonbridge couldn't help because they no longer have a warehouse? - hafele were helpful but it turned out the piece of kit they recommended (sliding drawer runners) would have cost £90 which I think is a bit steep.

I think I might go the no name industrial route. 481 do you have any idea where i could find vendors online (unfortunately I can't use castors because there's a lip at the front of the cupboard base). Alternatively I have some bog standard ikea drawer runners hanging around. Does anyone know how much weight they can bear? (nothing on the packaging)

Thanks again

try Irongmongry direct they will be a lot cheaper I don't know what thier tec guy's are like, they will send you a good catalouge, shame about style tec another victim of the recession.

I used old plans chest runners to mount a pull out freezer chest in a cupboard, but would have thought a trombone rail at top of cupboard would be easier to hang the bike from rather than try to balance in on a shelf?

I always start with a Google images search - find something that looks suitable, then ask Google images to find similar items. After that, hit the phone and talk to people about what you want. If you don't strike lucky at first, ask peope if they know anyone else who can help. They are also often happy to suggest alternative approaches.

When you find what you want, always - ALWAYS - ask them if they can do you a trade price, even though it's for cash (ie you don't have a trade account with them). BTW don't confuse this with the other use of the term "cash" (= no documentation = VAT fraud) - that is a completely different matter. To a bona fide supplier, cash means a one-off sale which is fully accounted for by both parties.

Just wanted to say thank you for all your helpful replies. Trombone idea is neat but wouldn't work in this instance because it's an under stair cupboard.

Thanks again all.
