I have an open system with a Myson pump 3 years old running at speed 3. Recently I have had hammering from pipes and water returning to the refill tank. I stopped this by bleeding the radiators (something I have to do regularly now so I think I have a leak somewhere). Anyway over the last week the pump is making a load rattling noise and the system is making a mild harrier taking off noise sporadically. Could this be that the bearings on the pump have gone and the water is not circulating at the correct speed? Also as the pump is only 3 years old do you think that I have a descaling problem to cause all my problems?

How old is your system?
How old is your boiler?
Why do you think you have a leak?
Have you seen any evidence of a leak?

Thanks Oilman.
The system and boiler (Ferroli Roma) are 11 years old.
I have found no evidence of leaking. I was making a layman's assumption about a leak.
