Hi

On my c/h pump there is a large screw slot on top...

Which way is max and which way is min ? (no markings).

Thanks

Carl.

The large slotted screw is not the speed control - it allows access to the rotor and enable you to bleed air from the pump.

Speed control is usually a three position rotary switch on the side of the pump body - not all pumps are variable speed.

I'm thinking of adjusting it because....

A plumbing engineer adjusted it to max recently (from min) !

He did this to try and get air out of the c/h system - i sometimes get
loud banging pipes when having hot water on only (after boiler on for 5mins) - but if i turn on the c/h the noise in the pipes stop !

This sounds like the problem I have, sometimes our house gets cold, what should I do?

Loud banging is telling you theres something wrong with the circulation in hot water only.

Call an engineer that can sort it before the boiler packs up completely
