One end of my garage rof purlin has wet rot. I have dug out as much damaged wood as I dare, treated the remainder with Ronseal's wood hardener, supported the purlin with wood from underneath and sealed the hole in the wall with 2 to 1 cement. Have I done enough to avoid damage, please ?

You'll have to find the source of the water that's caused the rot in the first place and cure that. Otherwise it will just go the same way again.

Have you cut this flush with the wall and hung it off an metal joist hanger?

If not, then any timber left in the wall may rot again.

And as JJ says, check the for a leak, but sometimes timber can rot just by being in the brick wall
