Putting a gas ring in a victorian fireplace

Hi,

Im thinking of putting a living flame gas ring in a victorian fireplace but im looking for advice,

1, would i need a flu fitting, ive recently had the open fire swept
2. where should i get the gas ring from
3. Coal effect bricks, where from
4. how much would you charge for this kind of job, gas supply approx, 5m away in cellar!!
5. how the **ck do you contril the temp? where would the regulator be fitted?

Although its a loverly idea to creat a coal effect in a Victorian fire place I think its goes against the Gas Safety Installation and use regulations to do what you propose.

You can probably purchase a CE marked fire that would be aspecialy made for your fire place shape. I may be wrong of course.

The regs are not there to spoil your fun just to stop your enthusiasm causing your demise.

To be honest you will probably loose more heat up the chimney during the winter than you will put into the building via the radiant heat from a few flames and a some chunks of coal effect stuff.

If its of any consolation the fact that you came on here to ask for advice does you credit.

Both Magiglo & Gazco do made-to-measure burner assemblies to fit all types of fireplaces. Suggest you contact a CORGI who has experience in this type of installation to seek further advice.

To try and coble something together from different components could be lethal IMHO.

Gas fires are some of the most dangerous appliances out there. There's a lot to know, have and do, to install them safely, please don't do it yourself.

i have to agree with you all.....also i have one fitted, its expensive to run and i get buggger all heat from it,

if i was you i'd fit a log burning stove type thing...so when we have a gas blackout next winter when we suffer "the coldest winter in living history"(*) then you can get your logs out and keep warm !

(*) - made up...i have no cristal ball...but who knows!
