pva on plasterboard

Was speaking to a builder mate of mine. He tells me that he always puts nearly neat PVA on top of plasterboard the night before skimming. He claims it gives better slippage on the first skim coat and makes it much less likely for any cracks to happen over time.

I've never bothered myself, but has he got a point?

The very last thing i want when skimming anything is slippage, what i want is moderate suction and grip!

That would make it very easy to push the plaster in to ridges.

Am half way through doing a room at home. Think I'll bung a bit of PVA on one wall tonight and see how it goes tomorrow. Can't do any harm
Or if it does, then I'll let it dry and reskim (having put a bit of PVA on to prevent suction )

It would be handy if the manufacturers put a skim coat on first too
