OMG can someone help me please!!

We've just moved into a house that has one of these all singing all dancing shower unit things with jets etc. Washed it out and to my shock and horror there's water all over the floor and it's not just me splashing!!

I've unscrewed the trap in the shower cubicle to check the seal on the joint and joy of joys the whole trap dropped down and is sitting on the floor. On the plus side it has meant that with the aid of a mirror and torch I've been able to take a good look at the plumbing underneath and this appears to be all OK.

There's a plastic skirt around the front of the unit that if I could get it off would give me access to hold the trap in place and apply some kind of sealant.

My questions are:
1. What's the normal method for attaching the trap - does the whole unit need to be taken out?
2. How the hell do you get the skirt off the front without breaking it?

It looks like a simple enough job - remove skirt, line up trap, apply sealant, screw in trap cover, put skirt back on, have fantastic shower back in use - but so far it's taken me hours to get to the same point I was at 2 days ago!

Heeeeeeeelp!!!!
