Question For Ban all Sheds

you wish you looked that swarve mate!

So bas has all that knowledge of being able to cross reference the regs and no practical or real life situation experience?

Sad is-it-not

I cant begin to think what his life must be like, lonely nights in with a copy of the 17th edition regs and a box of kleenex? or for pure nostalgia maybe sometimes he breaks out the 14th edition regs.

This is fun — imagining what BAS is really like. So here's my potted analysis report:

BAS is intellectual, with an IQ of 140. He may be clever, but he's socially inept so his teaching career is stunted. After many years he still hasn't progressed from the basic teachers' grade. He is frustrated when he sees teachers who are his intellectual inferiors pacing by him to become heads of departments and headmasters, even headmistresses.

Joining in a forum, he can become, in his eyes, the star. He can demonstrate his intellectual superiority over other posters. This is easy, because when they are wrong, others will try to defend their position, but fail to win the argument. BAS is cleverer than that. When he gets picked up over his mistake, he changes the subject and never tries to defend the indefensible.

Most of all BAS enjoys a newbie. He gets his rocks off when some DIYer naïvly proposes some installation. He then lists lots of esoteric texts the newbie should know. (Wow! he really gets off on this and has to leave his computer to change his sticky pants... )

Such is the way he makes up for his shortcomings in the real world.

I have to say, that brought a smile to my face which had been lacking ever since the referee decided to pi55 on England's parade!

This post should be locked, it started off as an inquisitive question and is turning into a character assasination.

Yes, bas is a strange one, but it is wrong to indulge in the internet equivalent of a witch hunt.

We are all the sum of our experiences good and bad, why he is what he is and why I am what I am has nothing to do with anyone else.

I will continue to criticise him as I feel fit , but I do object to this group persecution, it is very wrong.

......where's the punchline?

There isn't one, this time :)

I have always disliked the gang mentality of 'let's get him', in any argument or discussion we should stand on our own two feet and say our piece.
But don't try to curry favour or back up from other members - as bas does when he's losing the argument/plot.

Character building, im sure BAS can handle it.

Unfortunately this photo is completely inaccurate, as it shows Banal in an industrial setting. The hard hat and screwdriver are a dead giveaway.

Banal is almost certainly employed in a very dull office environment, probably in a very minor junior management position, yet his tiny speck of authority has gone right to his head, hence none of his work colleagues like him.

The closest approximation would be the Gareth character from "The Office".

Being in control of the distribution of A4 paper for the photocopier?

[Edit]: Also forgot to mention, maybe he just likes to pretend, you know cosy night in playing dressup and spreading knowledge far and wide on forums.

I would be interested in BAS' occupation, although it doesn't seem as if he is going to say.

As for the insulting comments, i cant see the point, sure he got a unusual hatred of downlights but seems to want to get people to be familiar with the law and be educated enough to do a job safely and correctly.

here's my tupneys worth.

I think sheddy could come clean about what he does. What does he have to hide? Maybe it would open the door to getting some respect from others here?

I think the regular posters would agree that he is not an apprentice trained electrician ( unless he was ill the week they did conduit ).

I have never disputed his knowledge (i diliberately avoided using the word intelligence as i personally think that means more than just academic/vocational ability) its just that whilst he openly admits that he can't stop people from what they do, he doesn't seem able to give the good information, then with a shrug of the shoulders just move on when his advice is refused.( sure, make a protest or try to re-inforce his message, but are the multicoloured cut paste abuse extravaganzas really necessary?) Instead, his subsequent futile attempts at condescention, arrogance and insults merely serve to undo all the good effort he has previously put in. Ultimately, this is only self-defeating and serves only to give himself a negative reputation.

Its just a shame that he seems to throw all his interpersonal skills out of the window when this happens and then continues to do himself a disservice. His bullet proof belief that he is always righteous in his approach is quite sad and the response to this by other posters is probably the reason why so many people have a view that he is disliked.

I also think that he has a very selective sense of humour which is switched on and off when he sees fit. Humour within the threads is not something that sheddy has under his control and should learn to roll with the punches instead of sounding like an overly buttoned-up nigel.

I've met people with Asperger's syndrome who display the same kind of character traits. Maybe he has a medical condition that he is either embarassed to reveal or somehow not aware that he is suffering from it?

I don't dislike him, i just feel sorry for him at times.
