im curently at college studying to be a spark. have been set a homework question as follows. one switch can operate lights on five floors . however lights can go on and off on each floor. (But can only use one switch total)??? i have already thought of timer switches or sensors. but tutor said only one switch , any thoughts ?

The question is not specific enough. Not enough detail. Just admit to failure and he'll tell you anyway.

Is that the exact wording?

If so, I see no problem. One switch, controlling 5 lights. The lights can indeed go on and off on each floor - at the same time! There is no stated requirement for independant control.

(perhaps this question is intended to test the capablility to understand a requirement, rather than devise some tricky circuitry)

quote the full and exact wording of the question.

Hello,

 It's not the 'old' extended pull cord , dropped within the stairwell question then ??

Whoops, I must learn to read the question properley, = sorry

make your butler wait by the light switch, shout at him "Turn the lights on, Hudson"

But are we sure that Hudson's bedroom is on the same floor as the one light switch. How will he find the switch in the dark?
