Rad stability

Hi I've not long moved into a new build. I'm having problems with my rads. If I put slight pressure on either end of the top of the rads some of them literally fall off the brackets. All have the little plastic clips in place. Should their be another locking clip to stop the rad lifting.
 
Probably got plastic microbore pipes, so nothing to steady the rad. Rads with proper copper pipes tend to be held more securely as the pipes stop movement of the rad.

That's the problem with buying new builds. Often low quality and thrown up by house-bashers, with cardboard walls, placcy plumbing and dolls house sized rooms.

Note to self - next time, don't buy a house bulit after the 70s. :wink:
 
There won't be a locking clip, but if the rad is not engaged properly at the bottom, the top could become very easy to knock off the bracket.

Unfortunately WS66 makes a very good point about plastic piping - you will nearly always be able to lift the rad off the bracket.
 
You could maybe put a decorative radiator cover on to stop the little ones from knocking it off?
 
Best thing I can think of Is make sure the Rad is on the top pair and the bottom pair of plastic hangers on the metal wall brackets. Then (awkward) but get under the rad and then see if there is any way to attach a number of cable ties to any extra holes in the wall bracket. If you have means crank them in really tight and this may prevent the rad being knocked/lifted up and off the hangers.

It's very common for small single convector radiators to move, even full of water.

Due to increased insulation & limited heat loss from new build houses, radiators tend to be small. These radiators are the same as radiators fitted in 1000s of homes across the UK & other parts of Europe.

The small plastic clip does make them more prone to movement & yes, with 10mm pipes connected, it's as I said very common.

Though I've not tried it; get a small amount of epoxy putty onto the bracket, that'll harden & stop the movement.
