I would like to replace a single rad with a double convector:

Question.
How come the same size rads from different manufacturers, can have different BTU and watt ratings?

I am looking at Glowworm and quinn barlow rads at the mo.
Is there a particularly good make out there? (needs to have bleed valve at top and side)
Cheers

Check each manufacturer is quoting output based on the same delta T figure either 50 or 60 degrees. If not you will get a difference.

The main two good makes are Stelrad and Myson. Others are available but these two are the mainstream.

Stelrad compact or myson premier compact are most common, although the stelrad will give slightly more output for the same size.

The different heat outputs are as a result of differing designs of the rad and particularly the fins.

Dont discount the lesser brands of rads. The Heatline ones made in Turkey are very solidly built with strong brackets. The Myson brackets seem to be getting thinner and smaller.

I think the Screwfix rads are made by Heatline. They are very strong but have to be to survive the careless handling during delivery.

Unfortunately Vaillant don't do steel panel rads - but if they did - they would probably be the best steel panel rads in the world.

Only joking gas.
