Firstly hello I am new here. Need some urgent help. Decided today to make a start decorating bathroom. Just gently pulled the radiator forward about 6 inches to paint behind. When I moved it back onto wall notice both pipes going in and out have a small dribble coming out where the microbore pipe goes into the valves either side. Quickly grabbed a spanner and tightened each gland as I am assuming there is an olive nut in each and that seems to have helped. However there slightly damp if I recheck after 15 mins. Now not sure how much more I can keep tightening them as there super tight and worried going to do more damage. Any one got any ideas? Too scared to even turn central heating on to check plus it's too hot anyway

I suppose it never crossed your mind to remove the rad to paint behind?
It is possible to over tighten the comp nut and split it, only feel can be your guide here. The other way is to part drain and remake the joints with a couple of turns of ptfe around the olives.

Hi
Try getting 1/4 of a turn on each valve joint again, this may solve it, if it doesn't, you may have bent the microbore pipework slightly where it enters the valve whilst moving the rad, turn both valves fully off and you will need to drain the radiator.

Check the pipework for any damage, straighten best you can, should be able to do this with your hands if it is 8 or 10mm and use ptfe tape, tighten joints again and open valves inspecting pipework for any leaks.

Regards

Hi thanks for quick replies. I have again tried to tighten each. Wont go as far as 1/4 turn. They only move very slightly. One now appears to be dry. The other so slightly damp. I can see the edge of the olives fitting around pipe look very green and corroded. My thought was that the pipe has bent slightly and distorted where it enters. Would assume the only option new olives and refit pipe? If I took joint off I guess water will go everywhere? It's a combo system and I think this is a bypass radiator? It's always on with no trv valve. It's also a rented property so don't know if it's just best to wait till Tuesday ad ring the agent?!
