Hi and thanks in advance for any advice. Have recently moved into high ceilinged, draughty, single glazed Victorian house (sash windows - not draughtproofed!) with 18" thick solid walls. There is no heating in the two attic rooms but when I got someone out with a view to adding radiators onto the existing system I was told that the boiler (only 2 years old) would probably be about the right size for a two bedroomed flat and needs replacing with a bigger version.
I need to get installers out to fit new bigger boiler but I also suspect that some of the existing radiators are not big enough for the job. I've had a look on some of the heatloss sites to try and get an idea of which radiators need changing - and like everybody else on here have found wildly different calculations. So... I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me a definitive answer - just for one room - so when I get my central heating installers out to give me a quote, at least I'll have some idea of whether my existing radiators are right or not!
I'll use my daughter's bedroom as the example - it is 5.34m x 4.03 m, the ceiling is 3.2 m high. It has 18" solid walls, faces South to South East, there are 2 single glazed sash windows, 2.83m 2 in area. There is a heated room underneath (the lounge), and an unheated loft space with what seems to be very deep insulation above. One exterior wall, 2 walls adjoin heated bedrooms in our house, the 4th wall is the party wall with next door. She has a fireplace which is currently boarded up but I may open it up at some point.
Some knowledge and experience would be great - then I'll feel like I'm on solid ground discussing it with heating engineer!
Thank you and apologies for lengthy post.
Stressed mother!
