Hi guys. I have removed the radiator in the lounge to be able to plaster the walls. Now, one radiator tail is connected up to the valve via a union nut and the other radiator tail via a compression olive. Idially when i hang the rad back to the wall i would apply a couple of turns of ptfe on the olive but as i can not push back the nut any further because its back already touches the rad and therefore i do not have any room to reach the olive and apply ptfe, i wondered what i can use on the olive to prevent any leaks. I was thinking of applying liquid ptfe on the olive but i have never used it and i do not know if i have to leave to set overnight and whether it would work on the olive. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Buy a small tin of Fernox Hawkwhite jointing compound. Last you ages and can be used on potable supplies. There are other brands available, but I prefer that.

Wouldn't he be better off with LS-X?

Isn't Hawkwhite just sloppy putty?

It is but it's a better grade. That putty washes away over time.

Just tighten it back up it wont leak. More chance of the union nut side leakin
