Radiator thermostatic valve pin not springing

Hi guys.

Turned the central heating on after the long summer.

All radiators in the house worked fine apart from the the one in the bedroom

The pipes into the radiator were "hot" to touch. But the radiator itself was stone cold.

The radiator had no air in it. And the TRV was set to full.

Removed the TRV and noticed that the pin was not moving at all when pushing down on it.

Whacked a bit of wd40 on it and lightly pulled with a pair or pliers and the pin moved upwards slightly. Following this. The radiator then started to heat up.

Success.

Whoever when pressing down on the pin, it just stays bedded into the hole and there does not appear to be any "spring back" coming from it.

The only way to heat the radiator up again is to pull the pin again with pliers.

Is there any way to fix the "springiness" or is the whole pin part going to need replacing ?

All depends on which make and model of TRV you have a pic would be your best bet to get the best advice

sharp light taps the a smallish hammer on the pin top will usualy free them off .

I normally work mine up and down with pliers a few times if they stick. Always worked up to now.

Simplest answer to this is...during the summer...when the heating is not being used...every couple of weeks or so, just turn the valves up and down, to keep them free, you don't need the heating on, just move them as someone goes round with a vac?..
