The bombers were due to move in October anyway, as the crews tour was over.

Cant they just fly in new crews for the planes.

According to a military correspondent on R5L last night, this is Trumpian bullshoite (again), as these bombers haven't flown from Fairford for over a month anyway.
And Fairford is not a base in the same way as somewhere like Mildenhall, in that it isn't meant to be continuously occupied. It's more of an occasional use thing.

It isn't a punishment to us, this was a stretegic move as the threat from Iran has been taken seriously. The military would not give any details on what they know about this obviously for security reasons. We will most certainly have Iranian terrorists already operating here in the UK at the moment, I keep saying that these illegal immigrants are a real security risk to us. I think we can clearly see that this is the case.

Not convinced it’s strategic to remove bombers which can strike very quickly. More likely Trumpf wanted to avoid potential embarrassment before the mid terms. Drones can travel long distances if they are his concern, but then if the country is bristling with Iranians they could have caused a lot of damage a lot earlier

Iran won't waste a lot of effort faffing about with an attack like that in the UK, when results for them would be far more fruitful closer to home. It's just another Trumpian 'Epstein' thing.

Removing the bombers with the explanation that the crews were to be rotated anyway doesn't cut much ice: Iran will claim a victory in taking the bombers out of harm's way with no cost to themselves. The optics are v. bad for tRUMP. The c-in-c didn't have to sanction the move, since the conflict with Iran shows no sign of shutting down.
