Rafter fixings

Hi,

I have 6 x 2 rafters going from a wall plate to a ledger board. Is there a particular method in which they need to be attached. I have read that it should be nails and not screws but is there a proffered method or does anyone have any more clarity?

I'd notch the ends and use joist hangers...
