Hi

I want to board out our loft for extra storage space. However the insulation is higher than the depth of the joists. I understand you should not compress the insulation material as if will be less effective. So how do I raise the height of the joists?

Thanks

I dont think it would make any difference to compress the insulation. If it is only slight. After all the boards on top are also adding to the insulation.

how so? explain how the boards insulate?

insulation is full of insulating air, how does a solid board insulate??
compressing insulation only weakens it's ability to insulate.
