hi, new to this sort of thing but wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing.
is raising a floor with timber more cost effective than using concrete?

I ask cos my builder was going to use concrete - quoted me for it then changed his mind and has used timber - are the prices much different as he hasnt changed his quote?

(I wanted to have part of my garage as a utility so have asked for price for stud wall floor raised and a couple of doors and so on)

How much has he raised the floor by? And what the dimensions of the floor, approximately??

Cost for this will be about the same whether concrete or timber. Concrete would have been quicker to lay, but taken longer to dry out and finish ready for floor covering (normally allow about a week per inch of concrete drying time), plus there may have been damp proofing issues he was initially unaware of which subsequently came to light.

Timber would have taken longer to install, but ready for floor covering immediately.

So, by the sounds of it, I don't think he's pulled a fast one on you.

Thanks very much for your reply - I had a feeling it was like for like. He said the reason was the drying time more than anything else.
