Hi all,

Me again. You may remember a while ago I posted about fitting a wired thermostat to my Ravenheat RSF84ET combi, which I did - problem is that it's very good at keeping the downstairs warm, but the bedrooms are bloody freezing! (The radiators get hot, but the bedroom is simply not as warm as the kitchen).

I think it might be advantageous to fit a wireless room thermostat instead so I can take it with me when I go upstairs. Problem is that I think my boiler has a "volt free" connection (only two terminals on the PCB) whereas I believe the wireless receivers need power to work!

Not a problem because I can take power from the 240v input terminals on the PCB but is this the recommended way of doing things? Also, I'm not sure if the thermostat terminals are actually "volt free" or 240v, because presumably with a volt free connection I'll need four-core cable (two to switch the boiler on and off, live and neutral) and if it's 240v then I'll only need three-core (live, switched live and neutral).

Am I right in thinking that most thermostats will work in either configuration?

Might even be more of an electrics question. Hopefully someone will know. Cheers :D

I think you got it sussed already, the wireless stat/reciever need 240v to work , you can take these from the boiler terminal strip and a pair of volt free cables to the same terminals your wired stat is using now, the wiring diagram for most rf thermostats is fairly straight forward.
