I got home from work today to find water spewing out of the boiler - luckily I was home only 10 mins after the timer had kicked in so not too much damage had been done.
I immediately stopped the water flow, shut off the boiler and let the water drain away. Once I unlocked the stop tap, cold water started gushing out of the boiler again. I looked in the manual and found out how to isolate the water flow from the boiler (silly little screw took almost 30 mins to free up enough to move). As of now I have running water, albeit cold, and no water leaking from the boiler. I was wondering about a few things:

1. Does anyone know the likely cause - until now the boiler had been working ok, although I have no idea how old it is, as it was here when I moved in.

2. Possible fixes and rough costs likely to be incurred? *If it is an easy fix I would attempt it myself*

When water was leaking I could not determine where it was coming from, although it was definately not from any joints on the exposed copper pipes. The water seemed to be coming from inside the boiler itself - from what I could see if was running down inside a red circular metal casing (Only the bottom edge was visible).

With my limited knowledge I believe it must be some problem with the mains cold supply to the boiler, but as stated have no idea what to do next.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this problem.

a good coat of looking at with cover off boiler and water turned on a smidge

Theres a few parts that it could be coming from.

If you have no idea what parts are what id suggest getting an RGI to take a look
