My lighting wiring, although in good condition, does not have an earth. Many of current lighting units are metal and should not usually be used without an earth. If, however, I am able to obtain an RCCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overload) to replace the micro circuit breakers would this provide sufficient safety to use these fittings?

i would say no, because it doesnt prevent a metal switch from becoming live, neither would an earth, but the earth would take out the mcb . fuse letting you know something is wrong.

Still your suggestion is better than what you have now
