RCD keeps tripping out - running out of ideas!!!

How do you attach photos on here?

In answer to the boiler question, it does not have a DP switch or any other seperate switch at all for that matter.[/img]

did you have the rcd installed before the street light problem or after?
if its a 300mA rcd who fitted it? it may have been an old one someone had that they thought was better than your current operated one?
when was it fitted before or after street light problem

The Hager RCD was fitted two weeks after the initial power cut, the old one was a big ugly black box ELCB from around 30 years ago.

Boiler is definitly the first place i'd look by what your saying.

Get the spark to disconnect the boiler if it only has a SP fuse connection unit and do an insulation resistance test on it. live-earth and neautraul-earth. should definitly be more than 0.5Mohm.

Also do a nuisance trip test on the RCD (1/2 times fault current)

hope this helps..

Pics of fusebox etc as requested.

as suggested by others get someone to put a plug on the boiler and plug it into an extension lead then when convenient unplug the boiler, this will disconnect live neutral & earth then you will know that the boiler cannot trip the rcd. wait and see if it trips if it does you will at least know it isnt the boiler. if it doesnt trip well it could then point to the boiler.

No sign of any G&Y earth cables :(

Are some of those cables near the meter covered in cotton braid over rubber

What does the big black switch do?

Are there any earth wires on your incoming gas and water pipes?

Where is the earth spike connected?

Someone will know what rules apply to landlord and tenant arrangements for electrical inspections.

p.s. Unfortunately your consumer unit is fairly old (possibly 30 years) and there is no scope for fitting more modern RCD protection inside it.

I can see a bit of earth cable below the cables in the picture of the Hager RCD. Looks very thin though.
