my main switch/rcd keeps intermittently tripping, its a pain for frozen food!
how do i determine what is wrong? could it simply be time to replace the rcd?
Dont know the answer to this and I dont pretend to know much about this sort of stuff but I had this problem and it turned out to be some debris in the CU. I had been doing some building work and dust, grit etc had found its way into the CU and was tripping it out.
RCD as a main switch is always a sod for nuisance tripping........seriously......get a spark in to see if it is possible to alter your earthing system to a type that doesnt require the use of an RCD as the main switch.
He could also use his meggar to find the likely cause of the nuisance tripping. Usually with intermitant faults like yours it is due to a neutral to earth fault ANYWHERE in the installation, and fluctuating load currents.
Of course, every so often it is due to a faulty RCD.
