Hi everyone,

Any ideas RCD wont stop in, keeps tripping but on 4 circuits not just one, any ideas??

When did this start happening? Switch off all circuits, then turn on RCD, test each circuits indivially to see which ones trip it

What do you mean by 4 circuits?

Do you mean that if any 1 of the circuits are on, it trips? Or only if all 4 of them are on, it trips?

What's on these circuits? Upstairs sockets, downstairs sockets, electric shower... what else?

Have you tried unplugging all appliances, and switching off all DP switches? (The MCB only breaks the Phase conductor, so will not stop a neutral/earth leakage).

yes done this, there a 8 circuits on the rcd 4 come on but any of the other 4 trip it

outside sockets
outbuildings
upstairs sockets
downstairs sockets

all trip rcd ??

Started about 4 days ago ramdom tripping been happening getting worse by every day???

Could be a dead N-E short on an RCD protected circuit (on a TN-CS), if you power up any circuit with a substantial load on it causes a high enough PD between N-E causing current to flow through the fault and trips the RCD.

lights works
lights works
lights works
spare works

outdoor sockets
outbuildings
security alarm works
heating works
kitchen sockets works
under floor heating works
sockets up
sockets down

Has any work been done in the house thatco-incided with the start of the problem. Not just electrical work - anyone been knocking nails in, moving things around, etc ??

only problem with this is there is no load on outside sockets or buildings??

only thing is some skirting has been put on

You might need to get someone to do an insulation resistence test on these circuits to determine if theres a short

10p says Nail through a cable.

Have you done the "unplug all appliances and turn off all DP switches?"

Would you be happy to disconnect the Neutrals from the circuits on the RCD side, in turn, as well as turning off that MCB, to see if one of them is causing it?
