My Flymo lawn mower hit a twig and disloged one of the blades. The Powebreaker RCD tripped and I had to reset the fuse box in the kitchen. Is hitting the twig likely to have been the cause of the RCD tripping?

An RCD trips only with a fault to earth. I suspect what happened is that the trapped twig caused overload on your motor and tripped your mcb/fuse at the consumer unit, this in turn caused the RCD to appear tripped. If you had a permanent earth fault your RCD would not reset.
