I'm trying to work out how, if his test circuit has an RCD, he gets power to it when the RCD is off...

Right hand switch appears to act as a change-over or simply shorting across the RCD to by-pass it.

I'd like to have seen a meter probe dipped in the glass of water in the first test to measure the touch voltage of the water near the surface.
