Evening all,

Just got the scaffolding up to re flaunch the chimney and discussing the best way to do it.

1) take it all off and redo the lot in 3:1 sand cement, hope i don't crack a pot

2) grind back to the stable stuff then flaunch from there.

Any thoughts welcome.

Take it off and re-do. Be very careful how you remove the gear. Pots are usually precariously placed on bits of supporting slate etc and are only locked in once the flaunching has grabbed hold.

Do a 70/30 mix of screed sand and building sand. The more screed the better, but workability will suffer. Don't be shy with the cement. Wet everything prior to adding the muck.

Cheers noseall,
Another question, had to cover it with some roof felt to stop it drying so quick and left these indentations, should I try and fill them with something?

Going to repoint some of the mortar tomorrow with better weather.

OP,
Did you remove all the old flaunching or did you use a coating of sand & cement over the old flaunching?

Hi ree,
Mostly removed. I damaged one of the pots when trying to get the old sand cement off and it tried to fall into the chimney, didn’t fancy trying to find 4 pots on a Friday.
I only have the scaffolding till tomorrow morning and it’s rained most of today and yesterday.

Wherever I couldn’t remove I’ve done deep cross hatch’s with an angle grinder and harled the new muck on.

It’s not ideal at all, but all I could do in the time frame.
