Re-grouting....

I have grouted a bathroom floor and used a powdered grout but think I must have used too much water as it has sunk when set and now the grout line is not level with the tile.....the customer would like a slightly lighter colour anyway....my question is....Can i just grout over the top of the old grout? I have a 4mm gap. Many thanks

You really need to partially rake out & start again; if the new grout doesn’t have a decent key between the tiles it’ll most likely crack & fail, especially if it’s a suspended floor.

Ok thankyou, it is a soild concreate floor, so can I just use a re-grouting tool and give the old grout a key with that? Also is primer a good thing to add to the mixture? Thanks

I wouldn’t prime or add anything to the grout mix, just clean down & damp the grout lines with water spray before re-grouting; don’t overdo it, just use an old kitchen spray.

you did this for a "customer"..!!!..come on my 1st year apprentices can grout better than this!!!....
