hi all, this has probably been asked a million times but i haven't got a clue when it comes to building work so here goes.

Im in the process of buying a house which needs a damp proof course. ive been told that plaster will be knocked of the walls upto around 1 metre high, the course done, then re-plastered. the trouble is the walls are currently some kind of textured plaster/artex? which is supposed to acheive a 'cottage effect'. Is it possible to match the re-plastering up to the textured wall or will it just be left flat?

any info is really appreciated

Thanks for the reply. Whats the answer to that then re-skim or remove?

It depends what finish you want. who ever plasters it will plaster it flat and im sure if you ask them they will try and match it up. Its quicker to throw a pattern on than flatten, but costs a few quid to put it all flat afterwards. ;)

The new 3:1 sand/cement render will look and behave differently from the existing plaster. Although it costs a bit more, but I'd always suggest replastering the full height of the walls.
