dry mix is awful and will not last more than a couple of years at best.
You need to mix it up to a damp consistancy where it oozes a tiny bit of water when you squeeze a ball in your hand.
Then throw it onto a wooden board to dry out for 10 mins and use that compacting it well into the joints with a jointer.
3 plastering sand to 1 cement is my favourite recipie.
