Re-rendering on old brick gate posts?

Hi, I have two old brick gate posts. They have what looks like to be bits of old render as well as having been painted. Is it possible to simply render over to make them neat if I knock off any bits that are loose? Thank you

Maybe brick facade cladding or brick slips.
Not my areas tbh.
That render and paint is trapping moisture

If they’re not being used, and are just ‘things to hit’ with your car etc, is it worth just removing them ?
