Hi I have been asked to re wire a mates kitchen. I was a qualified Spark some long time ago and havent done any electrical work for some years now. Can anyone tell me what the 17th Edition regs are relating to under worksurface white goods and isolation above work surface levels. Thanks in anticipation Dave

If the the appliance is built in, isolation must be offered and easily accessible, this can be by means of above worktop isolation or socket point in nearby units.
Nothing specific for the circumstances you describe - but look at Reg 537.3.
Also consider investing in the Electricians guide to the building regulations.
Don't forget you will need to demonstrate a level of competence to the Local Authority Building Control Inspector.

It is preferred that the socket outlet is on the fabric of the building but this is a guideline rather than requirement.
The socket outlet for free-standing appliances most be easily accesible when the appliance is pulled out.
and to prevent damage to plugs and the flex, the outlet should be installed a minimum of 150mm from it's centre above the worktop.
It's mainly building controls part p regs rather than 17th eds.
