Hi all,

I’ve attached some pics and drawn in purple where I want fencing?
Would love to hear from anyone who’s tackled something like this. Photos or lessons learned would be much appreciated.
I’m working on a project to rebuild part of a front garden wall and add slatted fence panels on top to create privacy. I’ve marked up a few photos of the area which I can share, but here’s the basic layout:
- Brick boundary wall with coping stones
- Two piers at the driveway entrance (one needs rebuilding)
- Another pair of piers at the path entrance to the front door
- The wall is low, so I plan to raise the privacy height by fixing slatted panels on top
My plan is to:
- Cut into the coping where needed and mount posts directly into the brickwork underneath
- Fix posts at the end and middle of the long wall on the right
- Use the house wall and piers to secure the rest of the panels
- Reattach coping over the posts afterwards for a clean finish
My main questions are:
- What should I do about pier heights?
If I raise just one of the piers at the path entrance (to match the new panel height), it’ll look odd. But if I raise both, it might look too bulky or disproportionate to the doorway. - The driveway piers probably need to go up to match the panels anyway — but is it visually better to raise all piers on the gateway to the same height? Or just one? I’d like the result to look intentional and balanced, not like it’s been bodged together.
- What posts and fixings would you use for the fence on the wall?
I’ve attached some pics and drawn in purple where I want fencing?
Would love to hear from anyone who’s tackled something like this. Photos or lessons learned would be much appreciated.
